Tiliva 7s cancelled

THE damage caused by Tropical Cyclone Keni resulted in the cancellation of the Tiliva 7s that was scheduled on April 26-27 at Tiliva District School ground.

Tournament spokesperson Epeli Vakatawa confirmed the extensive damage in the province of Kadavu forced the cancellation of the tournament.

“We have received an official report of the damage on Kadavu and 7s organising committee in Suva as well as the village committee and Tiliva District School committee have unanimously decided to cancel this year’s edition,” he said.

“It is untimely but beyond our control as the tropical cyclone was unpredicted as the tournament host village of Tiliva was battered just as many other surrounding villages.

“We feel the need to redirect our resources accordingly as there is a dire need at stake. Our primary concern at the moment is the clean-up and recovery as the welfare and safety of villagers are paramount.”

Vakatawa said all registrations fees paid would be refunded to the respective teams.

“All teams that have paid a deposit or the registration will be refunded and we are requesting them to please contact Joeli Tukana on mobile 9406985 or Epeli Vakatawa 9990267 to make arrangements for refund.

“We are also requesting that you bring a valid identification card and as for next year’s edition of the tournament, all stakeholders will make an assessment and decide accordingly,” he added.

Some of the teams that were confirmed for the event are Ratu Filise, Police and defending champion Uro Kadavu.
