MORE than 70 police officers will be deployed for the three days Coca-Cola Games which kicks off at the ANZ Stadium in Suva tomorrow.
Fiji Secondary School Athletics Association general secretary Vuli Waqa said apart from these officers there would be more officers without uniforms to be present at the Games venue.
He said safety of the athletes and the spectators was paramount at all times.
“We had the talks with the Fiji Police in terms of the security details and there will be over 70 police officers engaged at the event itself,” said Waqa.
“This is excluding the officers that are outside the event and we are grateful to the police for their support.”
“They will also visit the billeted areas for the schools educating the athletes with awareness campaign.
“Athletes have been urged to respect each other and practice good sportsmanship for the duration of the games.”
He said more than 2,000 athletes from 157 schools would feature at this year’s competition.
