OPPOSITION Leader Ro Teimumu Kepa has been endorsed as a provisional candidate by the management of the Social Democratic Liberal Party.

Her name is expected to be announced in the party’s next batch of candidates announcement and annual general meeting at Namoli in Lautoka this Saturday.

Party leader Sitiveni Rabuka said Ro Teimumu had applied and went through all the relevant procedures.

“That has already been dealt with. She has been interviewed and she is now a provisional candidate,” he said. He also said the other candidates for the party for this year’s general election would be announced at the AGM.

Meanwhile, in the lead-up to the party’s AGM, Mr Rabuka clarified the decision to host the meeting in Lautoka has generated some interest in the media and within the public as to why the meeting was scheduled to take place in the West.

In a press conference yesterday, he said it was the responsibility of the party to take their meeting to where their supporters were.

“We are having the conference in Namoli because it is our responsibility as a party to take our conference to where our supporters are. We have supporters in the Central Division and we have had two general assemblies in Suva. Now we are moving to the West as we have support there and as well the North.”

Mr Rabuka said one of the issues that would be discussed at their AGM would be the amendment of the party’s constitution to allow for an additional vice-president.

“One of the issues that will be discussed in the upcoming meeting is the amendment to the party constitution to allow for an additional vice-president to be inducted.”
