THREE people have been charged and will appear in court today for robbing three individuals during the weekend.

Police chief operations officer, Maretino Qiolevu said in a statement that two of the three were in their 20s while one was a juvenile aged 17 years.

All have been charged with theft.

“Over the weekend officers conducted an operation within the Suva City area whereby six people were arrested. Three have been charged while the others were questioned and released,” ACP Qiolevu said.

“While we are looking into the concerns raised by members of the public, we will maintain our call for members of the public to take all necessary steps of ensuring their personal safety as these are opportunistic crimes carried out by individuals and not a group operating in the Suva area as claimed.

“We are mindful of the calls to increase visibility and patrols within the city areas and have taken the necessary steps to do so, but at the same time officers are also being deployed to conduct mobile and foot patrols throughout the heavily populated residential areas in the Southern Division.”
