ADI Cakobau School sprinter Salote Baravilala has been selected in the Fiji athletics team to compete in the Melanesian Championships. The competition will be held in Port Vila, Vanuatu.

“Athletics Fiji will be sending a team of 12 to this year’s Melanesian Championships in Port Vila, Vanuatu,” a statement from Athletics Fiji read.

“The team will be led by Errol Qaqa for the men’s side and Heleina Young for the women’s side with Athletics Fiji secretary Nemani Tukunia and Calvin Yee as the team managers and Bola Tafo’ou as the head coach.”

In the men’s team the athletes are Marika Cabenagauna, Jim Colasau, Livai Maravou, Errol Qaqa, Meli Senokonoko and Malasebe Tuvusa while in the women’s team will have athletes such as Baravilala, Serenia Ragatu, Fane Sauvakacolo, Louisa Tubailagi, Vilorina Tuilawaki and Young.

“The team is looking forward to return with a few medals around their necks and a few personal bests,” the statement further read.

“However for high school sprint sensations Salote Baravilala, Serenia Ragatu and Louisa Tubailagi, these championships will be the perfect opportunity to try and run Youth Olympic Qualifying standard times for a spot on the Fiji Youth Olympic Team to Buenos Aires, Argentina.”
