Teenager on murder charge bailed

Listen to this article:

A MAN charged with one count of murder has been granted bail by Suva High Court Judge Justice Daniel Goundar this morning.

Nineteen-year-old Deepak Kumar is alleged to have driven a motor vehicle in a reckless manner causing the death of a seven-year-old girl on July 21.

Defence lawyer Mehboob Raza informed the court that the state had indicated that they would relook at the charge.

The State lawyer said the DPP would confirm if they would be changing the charge or not and further stated that he did not object to bail.

Kumar has been granted bail with two sureties who have signed a surety bond of $1000 each, and he has also been ordered to surrender his passport and drivers licence.

Justice Goundar has ordered that Kumar not to drive while on bail.

The matter has been adjourned to September 21 for mention.
