LANKY Jasa Veremalua believes losing the 2017-2018 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series title to South Africa has motivated the Fiji squad members to strive harder to regain the Melrose Cup after more than a decade.

Veremalua and Leone Nakarawa are the only players in the Utah preparation training squad who have participated at the 2013 World Cup 7s.

The 30-year-old who hails from Baravi, Sigatoka said he was looking forward to the trip.

“We all can’t wait for the exciting event and are fighting for our positions in the best 12,” Veremalua said.

“We have to work harder for that during the training sessions. The inclusion of the overseas players has boosted the morale of the local boys. They have been helping us during the preparations.

“In 2013 we fielded a good side. We had many big names unfortunately we lost in the semi-final to New Zealand.

“We lost the HSBC 7s series this year and watching South Africans on the podium receiving the gold medals has motivated our players. We will fight to get gold at the World Cup.

“We would like to thank our supporters and we need all their prayers to accomplish our task.”
