Update: 8:17PM FLOOD waters are slowly receding at the Qauia River although crossing the bridge is still impossible because of strong currents.

The water level began to rise at around 11am today, only to reach residents’ doorstep a few hours later.

Qauia resident Mikaele Qeretabua said a few families living in houses by the river had evacuated their homes and had moved to other families who live on the higher ground of Qauia Road.

Even the flood waters did not stop residents from coming out of their homes to watch flood waters wash away debris and other household items downstream.

This newspaper also witnessed a group of people in the area disposing household rubbish into the flooded river.
