THE announcement today will not only change the lives of the taxi permit holders but their families as well, says LTA chairman Vijay Maharaj.

Mr Maharaj made the comment in his opening address during the presentation of priority taxi permits to 43 successful applicants in Suva this afternoon.

“Years of patience and perseverance have finally paid off for these people and their families,” he said.

Mr Maharaj said there was a huge demand for public service vehicles and after weeks of vigorous processing in line with regulations the Land Transport Authority was able to dedicate this afternoon to the permit recipients.

The acting Prime Minister and Attorney-General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, after his official address, handed out the taxi permits to the 43 successful applicants.
