THE eticketing system assists in planning and it also ensures accountability.
Attorney-General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum made this clear during the 2018/2019 National Budget public consultation at Sila Central High School in Nausori yesterday.
He made the comment after Nausori resident, Setu Pouvi questioned the minister why Government introduced the eTicketing system.
Mr Pouvi said the system created a lot of hassle for members of the public especially when the eTicketing recharge machine failed to work at times.
Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said progress would not be possible if people were not used to technology.
He said Government had worked to address the various issues that were encountered when the system started.
“The Fiji Revenue Customs Service now knows exactly how much each bus company makes and that’s very important,”Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said.
He said there were some people who were still abusing the eticketing system however, Government was working to ensure accountability and at the same time work to address the few teething issues that were still faced by members of the public.
