Swimming scoops top awards

PORT MORESBY – Swimmers Lara Grengen of New Caledonia and Ryan Pini of Papua New Guinea were named XV Pacific Games Top Female and Male respectively during the Closing Ceremony as the Games came to a close last night at the Sir John Guise Stadium.

Grengen returned home early to prepare for another international competition after winning 11 old medals was not present to receive her award.

Pini who won seven gold also in the pool was the outstanding male. He was also announced Athletes representative on the Pacific Games Council replacing Fiji’s Carl Probert.

Outstanding Male Athlete: Ryan Pini PNG 7 gold

Outstanding Sports Administrator: Richard Kassman PNG

Outstanding Coach: Jerry Wallwork Samoa

Outstanding Technical Official: Christophe Bombour (NC)

Outstanding Male Junior Athlete of the Year (18 or under at the start of the Games) Tthibault Merry (NC) 2 gold

Outstanding Female Junior Athlete of the Year (18 or under at the start of the Games) Tahit Emma 7 gold NC swimming.

Outstanding Team (may include pairs, triples, relays, team medal winners) Guam Basketball
