SUVA has suffered their first loss in the Skipper cup losing out to Namosi 26-24 at Navua yesterday.
Namosi secured two early tries from Timoci Sinate and Vaione Tegu both converted by Joji Ragamate that tallied their half time points of 14.
Suva’s Jaoji Dakuvula slotted a penalty in the 15th minute of play and later converted the capital side’s try from Jone Delana. In the final phase of play in the first half they were awarded a penalty try edging Namosi at the breather 17-14.
In the second half good support play from Namosi saw a try awarded to Watisoni Sevutia taking points to 19-17.
In response Suva’s Nacanieli Wakaya scored a try carrying them back in the lead 24-19. Their lead was short-lived when Aporosa Gavidi of Namosi scored in the 31st minute of play, the hosts winning 26-24.
Suva coach Salimoni Ravouvou said the loss had presented some points of weaknesses which he would address in their next match against Nadi.
“It’s is quite disappointing that we let the opposition score two early tries and although we scored tries to keep in contention it wasn’t enough in the end. I think the boys know where they went wrong with the decisions they made on the field and will look to address that,” he said.
He added that he considered their next match against Nadi as equally challenging and hopes the players will step up their game.
“We have two hard games ahead of us, we have to take this moment and learn from it, because there really is no excuse for them,” he said.
