Update: 1:50PM SUVA lawyer Devanesh Sharma has been appointed as Sugar Industry Tribunal by the appointing authority, the Chief Justice, for a term of three years.
The appointment became effective from March 28 this year.
A Government statement issued yesterday stated Mr Sharma was regarded among the Fijian legal fraternity as a measured and effective litigator on behalf of his clients over his 25 years of post-admission experience.
The statement said Mr Sharwas was routinely retained as counsel in the fields of commercial law, securities, and criminal and domestic litigation because of his strong record as a courtroom advocate in complex legal matters.
He is the former president of the Fiji Law Society.
Mr Sharma, a partner in Suva law firm R. Patel and Co., is admitted to both the Fijian and New Zealand Bar and received his LLB degree from Victoria University, Wellington.
