HER passion for education won Miss Lautoka City Council Payal Pritika Prasad the Best Research Topic award at the opening of the Vodafone Sugar Festival last night.

Ms Prasad is in her final year of education studies at the University of the South Pacific and hopes to become a secondary school teacher.

“I couldn’t believe when I got the award, it really means a lot to me,” the 23-year-old shared.

“My mum Gyan Mati was a school teacher and she is a role model to me.

“The way that she served in schools has helped shape and nurture the lives of so many young people and that is something I want to do in life.”

There are nine contestants vying for the Vodafone Miss Sugar Festival crown.
