LAUTOKA ended Ba’s unbeaten run in the Rewa Galaxy Youth League with a 1-0 win at Nadovu Park yesterday.
Natabua High School student Sekove Finau was the toast of the Sugar City boys for scoring the lone goal of the game in the first spell.
Following the footsteps of his soccer brothers Peni Finau, Leone Vurukania and Osea Vakatalesau, the Lautoka striker was in top form to help his team defeated high flying Ba side.
The win has enabled Lautoka to secure six points compared with Ba’s four.
Lautoka mentor Sunil Krishna Naidu commended his troops for their effort. He said the side worked tirelessly at training to produce the goods against Ba.
“We knew Ba was tough especially after their 6-0 win over Nadroga,” said Naidu.
“We worked hard at training and the boys played as a team to defeat Ba.
“The boys defended well throughout the game to keep Ba scoreless.”
Naidu said the win had given his side the confidence to do well in their remaining games.
He said the side still had a chance to secure the top two spots from the West to feature at the national play-offs despite their 4-0 loss to Nadi in the opening game.
Ba coach Sunil Kumar said his boys played well but they failed to capitalise on their scoring chances.
“We had a lot of chance in front of the goal but we lacked the finishing touches and that is one area you need to work on.”
“We dominated possession but our strikers were a bit down otherwise it would be a different outcome.”
Kumar said the side would work hard to bounce back in their next game.
