Student involved in a locomotive accident

Listen to this article:

POLICE are continuing investigations into an incident where a 14-year-old student injured his leg in a locomotive accident at Batinikama, Labasa yesterday.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said the student is admitted at the Labasa Hospital.

Ms Naisoro said the victim was walking along the tramline with his brother when a locomotive approached them from behind.

“Instead of moving to the side, it is alleged they tried to outrun the locomotive whereby the victim’s flip flop got caught between the tracks,” she said.

“It is alleged that while the locomotive was passing the two, the victim used his right leg to try and retrieve his flip flop from between the passing trailer.

“His leg, however, got caught and was trapped under a trailer and he sustained injuries as a result.

“The victim was rushed to the Labasa Hospital where he is now admitted at the Children’s Ward.”
