Strong quake hits PNG

Update: 1:08PM A 6.9 MAGNITUDE earthquake was recorded in the Papua New Guinea region this morning.
The Seismology Unit of the Mineral Resources department said
the moderate earthquake was recorded at a depth of 56km.
The seismic activity was located 148km East from Kimbe, PNG;
1024km Northwest from Honiara, Solomon Island and 3235km Northwest from Suva,
It also confirmed that this inland earthquake with shallow
depth did not pose any immediate threat to the Fiji region.
