ATHLETICS Fiji is strict on the dieting plans for their 12 athletes who would be competing in the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.
Athletics Fiji chief development officer Joseph Rodan Jr said the athletes showed a lot of character and determination towards the competition.
“The athletes are in good spirits and they have been in Gold Coast for the past three weeks and they do not have any distractions. They are not going sightseeing or shopping since they have done all,” Rodan said.
“Their focus is to make sure their diets are right and remain focused on the events and the Commonwealth Games.
“When you have happy athletes then you have good chances of them competing well at competitions like the Commonwealth Games.”
Rodan said athletes were aware of their roles in the competition.
“We get together and eat together at a fixed time as a team and they have been doing that with the dieticians from the Oceania Athletics Association. They had been told of their diets when they were here competing in the two competitions before the Commonwealth Games,” he said.
“The athletes are already tuned in terms of what they need to eat and every morning they get on the scale and see their weights.”
