THE Fiji Airways Fiji 7s team has settled in well in Vancouver, Canada in preparation for the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series Canada 7s in Vancouver.

The Gareth Baber-coached side yesterday visited children and teachers of Tslei-Waututh Community Centre where they also talked about the off the field real-life issues affecting people in the community linked to Pacific Island countries.

Charlene Aleck, the elective council of the community said the visit by the Fiji 7s team touched many students.

The Tslei-Watuth Community could face land problems with the expansion projects proposed for the area which could damage the land and homes of the people. The people from the community had opposed the idea and this was shared with the Fiji 7s players.

"I found that I struck a cord that is real and this is something real and it is not something that I am just saying to be fancy or to get noticed," she said.

"It is real and it hits your heart.

Aleck said the visit by the Fijian players were very humbling. "

"The whole team came over and sharing that similarities and I found there were a lot more similarities than the differences even though we are across the world from each another and our similarities are there and the appreciation for the land and water.

"It was exciting to have the team in the community with the grandparents, parents and the little ones came to see as they wanted to see the whole Fiji rugby team. It is our appreciation for a professional athletic team to come and visit a small community says a lot about the Fiji rugby."

Fiji is third on the points standings with 79 points behind South Africa with 92 and New Zealand second with 82 points. Fiji will play Spain in its first match on Sunday at 6.36am followed by France at 10.08am and will play Kenya at 1:40pm in their final pool encounter.
