TROPICAL Depression 09F, which intensified into a Category 1 tropical cyclone on Tuesday night, poses no direct threat to Fiji.

Fiji Meteorological Service (FMS) director Ravind Kumar said Tropical Cyclone Hola intensified further and developed into a Category 2 system at 6am yesterday.

"TC Hola was located about 237 west-northwest of Port Vila at 3pm this afternoon (yesterday)," he said.

"It's moving west at about 15 kilometres per hour and has an estimated sustained wind of about 95km/hr close to the centre. It doesn't pose any threat to the Fiji Group."

He said weather had significantly improved throughout the country as easterly wind flow prevailed over the group.

All warnings and alerts previously in force for Fiji were also cancelled yesterday.

"Expect cloudy periods with brief showers over eastern parts and interior of larger islands. Other parts of the country can expect fine weather with some showers developing in the afternoon or evening.

"Isolated heavy rainfall and thunderstorms can also be expected. Good weather conditions to prevail for the rest of the week. Mariners can expect easterly wind 15 to 20 knots with moderate to rough seas."

Communities have been advised to remain updated with the latest weather information as the country is still in the cyclone season.
