Bus bay ensures students' safety

THE new bus bay constructed in front of the Montfort Boys Town in Savusavu will ensure the safety of the 500 students at the school.

A statement from the Fulton Hogan Hiways (FHH) said the students would now be able to begin and end their day more safely.

The statement said FHH, working under the Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) to improve road access across the Central, Eastern and Northern divisions, was contracted to complete the project.

FHH North operations manager Solomone Nabete said the work would include an installation of a 900-millimetre culvert that would be backfilled to provide a decent space for buses and taxis to stop.

"Students and parents will be safer because they will be able to wait in a safe area and not worry about the oncoming vehicles," Mr Nabete said.

The length of the new bus bay will be 20 metres long and three metres wide.

The school is located on Transinsular Rd, about six kilometres from Savusavu Town.
