Contender for try of the year

Wednesday, March 07, 2018

American sevens player Perry Baker has put forward an early contender for try of the year.

The United States Eagles speedster ran the length of the field to score a stunning individual try against Fiji in the semi-finals of the Las Vegas Sevens on Monday morning.

After receiving the ball about two metres from his own in-goal, Baker stepped inside one man and onto his own line, before stepping back out to the wing. His fast feet then saw him fake a step inside before bursting up the line, cutting inside Fiji's full back and then blasting home. The man known as the speed stick is the reigning world sevens player of the year, and is scoring tries for the United States at a record rate. Baker has 24 tries in five tournaments this season, to sit third in the standings.
