Bower says a decision has been reached

TEAM Fiji chef de mission Patrick Bower says a decision has been reached regarding a complaint lodged with the FASANOC selection justification committee by one of the national sporting federations.

This follows a 48-hour appeal period where athletes were given the opportunity to appeal if they felt they had been unfairly deprived of the opportunity to represent a team at the upcoming Commonwealth Games.

Bower, however, did not reveal the name nor the sporting federation the athlete belonged to.

He said the committee made a ruling on the appeal accordingly.

"We had one protest by one of the federations, but other then that, everything was accepted by the executive committee and then on to the board of governance which represents all sports," he said.

"They voiced their queries regarding the selection, but it was justified that all those selected deserved to be selected.

"The one, who did protest, was not successful after it went to the tribunal so all the teams are set to go."

Bower said the respective sporting federations met on Monday to discuss their travel plans.

"Twelve section managers from the respective sporting federations, which will be competing at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, met on Monday and we discussed the sports which would be leaving earlier for Australia," Bower said.

"The commercial flights would leave at 7am and then the second flight would leave around 10am on March 30 for the Gold Coast.

"The bowlers would be departing earlier than the Team Fiji contingent so they would try out the greens on the Gold Coast.

"We had a great cooperation from all the national sporting federations and the backup team at the FASANOC had been fantastic as they had worked round-the-clock to make sure everything is on schedule."

Meanwhile, Fiji 7s and Fiji Pearls are yet to name their final squad to the Commonwealth Games which will be held on April 4-15.
