Elliot pulls out, Cavula in

FIJI Beach Volleyball player Qilu Elliot will not represent Fiji at next month's Commonwealth Games because of family commitment, says section manager Alexxis Edwards.

The 33-year-old played a pivotal role along with Inia Korowale in helping Fiji qualify for the Commonwealth Games at the qualifiers in the 2017 Pacific Mini Games in Port Vila, Vanuatu.

"Qilu (Elliot) had some other priorities including their baby," Edwards said.

"He was not able to connect to the time involved to prepare for the Commonwealth Games.

"We had replaced him with Sairusi Cavula and he (Cavula) is doing very well in training,"

Edwards said they were training hard at Pacific Harbour in Navua.

"Sai (Cavula) is working very hard, he does not have the experience which Qilu (Elliot) has — so that is a setback, but he definitely has the commitment 100 per cent," she said.

"Qilu's wife gave birth to their first child after the team went to New Zealand for training and it was difficult for him to be away from his family."

The Commonwealth Games will be held from April 4-15.
