Tough challenge

Pravin Narain
Wednesday, March 07, 2018

THE Commonwealth Games will be a tough challenge for the Fijian athletes, says Athletics Fiji coach Albert Miller.

Miller said local athletes would be competing against the best in the world.

"Commonwealth Games is a different world and if we are talking about Commonwealth Games then we are talking about the best sprinters in the world from England, Jamaica and Bahamas," Miller said.

"I hope the athletes selected to represent the country will have a good experience.

"We want to be positive and that the results will come in due time.

"There are times when we push the athletes too early — they get those bad experiences."

Miller wished the athletes the best.

"There are thousands of people who would be watching them run on the day and it should be a positive atmosphere and experience or otherwise they would have the bad experience and would have negative impact on their career," he said.

"We need to make sure the quality is there so they can be competitive."

Team Fiji will depart for Australia on March 30.
