Income revenue for Nabuna village

NABUNA village on the island of Koro is hoping to get it's fibreglass boat and outboard engine for the first time in a long while.

Nabuna Village headman Maika Komaitavasi said the village had $5000 while Government gave the rest for the purchase of the 23-foot fibreglass boat and 40 horsepower engine.

Mr Komaitavasi said the boat would be used to generate income for the village, which in turn would help cater for village obligations.

"Before the passenger vessel used to service Koro and Savusavu but now it only travels to Koro, so for those of us that want to travel to Savusavu, we have to come to Suva and then make the trip to Savusavu and that is very costly for us.

"From the village to Savusavu it will take about two hours and with a boat charge of $150-$200, this will be an income generator for the village."

Mr Komaitavasi added the boat could also be used to transport villagers to neighbouring village and also for fishing trips.
