Rehab works on road completed

MAJOR rehabilitation work on deteriorated sections of the transinsular road in Savusavu has been completed by Fulton Hogan Hiways (FHH).

FHH construction manager Scott Wilkinson said the sections of the road needed P1 structural repairs.

"This is when the road fails and it is posing a risk to road users. Some vehicles are forced to use the other lane just to avoid potholes, which was dangerous," Mr Wilkinson said.

"Motorists will now have a smooth and enjoyable ride, more importantly it will now be safer than before."

According to FHH, workers had removed the deteriorated material from the road and stabilised both the sites with cement. They had also removed the shoulders on the side of the road to allow the flow of water away from the road.

Mr Wilkinson said the road had been affected by years of normal wear and tear and also through overloading.
