BULLYING and girls been abused and violated were two major issues raised at the Fiji Women's Rights Movement workshop which was held at the University of the South Pacific in Suva last week.

FWRM's Grow Inspire Relate Lead Succeed (GIRLS) program, in partnership with the Emerging Leaders Forum Alumni (ELFA), hosted the creative writing workshops as part of their lead up to this year's International Women's Day celebrations.

FWRM GIRLS officer Lillian Delana said the main objective of the workshop was in lead up to International Women's Day celebrations which would be celebrated tomorrow at the University of the South Pacific.

The GIRLS program, which features young girls between the ages of 10 and 17, will work in partnership with Mary Rokonadravu, who is the first Fijian to win the commonwealth prize for a short story.

"She is one of a kind and she is helping the girls write their creative pieces, and also the girls are learning more about creative writing, to be critical, having their own opinions and writing their pieces to highlight the different issues young girls are facing nowadays.

"Some of the issues the girls are coming out with and are still coming out in school now in their different communities as well is issues around bullying.

"Bullying is still one of the major issues and also, girls being abused and violated."

She urged the public to visit the celebrations tomorrow and learn about the issues the girls would be raising.
