Law student charged

A LAW student has been charged with obtaining financial advantage after he masqueraded as a bonafide lawyer to obtain $9550 from a Lautoka businesswoman.

Parmendra Sharma, 54, appeared before Magistrate Mosese Naivalu in Lautoka yesterday. The court was told that between July 14, 2013 and February 25, 2014, the accused engaged himself as a lawyer and obtained groceries, liquor and cash valued at $9550. Plea was deferred and bail was set at $3000. Strict bail conditions had also been laid, including a stop departure order.

He is expected to reappear in court today.
