THE Health Ministry's fight against the spread of dengue fever-carrying mosquitoes in Lautoka was given a boost after the Reddy Group of Companies gave two mistblower machines yesterday.

The equipment was given through its subsidiary, Clyde Equipment, during a handover ceremony held at the company premises in the Sugar City.

General manager Praful Dhokai said they made the donation on behalf of Clyde Equipment, the Reddy Group and chairman YP Reddy.

"We are pleased to give the solo mistblowers to the Ministry of Health," he said.

"Our country is suffering from dengue so by donating this, we are sure that we'll remove mosquitoes and remove the disease."

He said both machines cost about $6000.

West divisional medical officer Dr Susana Nakalevu said the ministry was grateful for the support from stakeholders.

"Spraying will begin immediately because we have six subdivisions in the West, so the two machines will definitely be of great help and also help our officers combat dengue," she said.

"We hope for strengthened partnerships with our stakeholders, corporate bodies, even families and communities.

"Indeed, the fight against dengue should be a collaborative effort and we want to broaden our partnerships with many more stakeholders."

Dr Nakalevu said the fight against dengue was not just the responsibility of the ministry, but all stakeholders and communities too.
