Residents take action, clear drains

FAMILIES living in Siberia Rd, Labasa, have taken the time to clear nearby drains in the area instead of waiting for the authorities.

Siberia resident Tirimale said instead of complaining about the drainage problems in their area, they decided to act on it.

"We have been facing a lot of drainage problems at our area that have contributed to the damaged roads," he said.

He said they had to live with the flooded road for many years.

"This is the most complained about road over the years, but nothing has been done. We decided to clear up the drains on the side of the road to stop it from getting flooded."

He said what prompted them to act was the support of youth groups in the area.

"We have cleared up the bushes growing inside the drains to let the water flow during heavy rain," he said.
