Training for team leaders

THE Fiji Red Cross society team leaders of branches in the Northern Division are able to do their own training without the intervention of staff members from the national office, says Fiji Red Cross Society health and care co-ordinator Marica Kepa.

The team leaders attended a five-day training on health, disaster, climate change, and disaster drill and disaster preparedness last month.

Ms Kepa said the programs were a way of capacity building for their branches.

"The participants are mainly our team leaders from here in the North and we have six branches, where all branches themselves nominate their three representatives,", she said.

"We also have tools that we are using like the integrated vulnerability and capacity assessment tool that we use in the community which is only done by Red Cross.

"We use this to gather information as the foundation of our program before we implement programs in the community and the other thing we talk about is gender equality and social inclusion and on disaster topics we talk about disaster drill, disaster preparedness and that's basically what we cover in the one week."

Ms Kepa said their expectation after the training from team leaders were for them to organise trainings in the future.
