VODAFONE Lautoka Football Club was overwhelmed with support shown by Fijian fans during the 2018 OFC Champions League Group C fixtures in Auckland, New Zealand.

President Abdul Kadar said he was proud to see the Fijian support at the venue. "We had a very good support from the people here," Kadar told Fiji FA Media in New Zealand.

He said the fans were behind them in all the matches. "The fans were like the 12th player on the field and made the team strong. The fans were very vocal as they cheered on our boys for glory."

He said it was one of the reasons behind their success in the OFC Champions League. Kadar said they were representing Fiji and that brought everyone together.

"Without the support of the fans we would have not reached this far.

"Here it is not only Lautoka fans but we could see people from all the districts putting their support behind us.

"It was also good to see some of the former national and districts players lending their support and advice to the players."

He praised the effort of players and team management.

"I must thank my players and officials for making us proud with the spot in the quarter-finals."

More than 2000 Fijians were at the Trust Stadium on Sunday, February 25 when the Blues took on Madang FC of PNG in their opening match where they won 3-1. A similar crowd turned up for the matches against AS Venus and Auckland City. Kadar also thanked the Fiji Football Association for sending in national coach Christophe Gamel to assist them. "I must thank Fiji FA for sending Gamel as he helped a lot on our mistakes and guided our boys and coach Kamal Swamy."

Lautoka confirmed their quarter-final spot after registering wins against Madang FC (3-1) before beating AS Venus 2-1 in their second group fixture.
