Value chain key

Solomone Rabulu
Tuesday, March 06, 2018

FOR agriculture to be preserved, we need to develop the value chain, as consistency is very important and so is the development of proper facilities, says Minister for Agriculture Inia Seruiratu.

Mr Seruiratu said this during his visit to the Agricultural Marketing Authority agency in Savusavu, Vanua Levu to monitor and inspect the progress of agricultural development projects in the Northern Division recently.

He said Government would continue to support the work of the Agricultural Marketing Authority (AMA) to ensure the purchase and sale of produce from rural communities.

"Government has invested a lot in the Look North Policy, particularly on the improvement of infrastructure, communication and utilities and will continue with the focus on economic empowerment of our rural communities," Mr Seruiratu said.

"Given the authority's actions of setting up packing sheds, proper packing houses and cold storage systems in order for the purchase and sale of more farm produce and fisheries products as well from the North, this would ensure consistency in their operations to supplement their establishment.

"The Agricultural Marketing Authority is making significant improvements in their operations and now we want to move our collection centres into the key areas."
