Brass band commended

A TWENTY-FIVE member brass band from St Andrews High School from the Kingdom of Tonga was honoured for their dedication and contributions towards the Anglican Church Fono held over the weekend in Suva.

Anglican Church Archbishop Dr Winston Halapua said the band were invited after hearing about the Oceania Fono and the coming of the Archbishop of Canterbury and the general secretary of all provinces of the Anglican Church throughout the world.

"They offered their services, but like anything else, this involves money. Things started to come together and then Tropical Cyclone Gita hit Tonga," Archbishop Halapua said last night. "What moved us is that many of the members present here today have their houses destroyed, food crops and things to do with lives are down as well."

He said because of Severe Tropical Cyclone Gita, the members were affected and the event was organised to collect assistance.

This was so that each member could be given something to take back to Tonga.
