HOTELS located along the fringes of the coral coast in Sigatoka are continuing with a range of community projects this year.

The Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association's Coral Coast Chapter is also collaborating with the Health Ministry to upgrade the operating theatre at the Sigatoka Hospital, says president Peter Hopgood.

"The total cost will be approximately $70,000 and construction should commence midyear," Mr Hopgood said.

Mr Hopgood, who is also the Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort general manager, said on March 13, the resort would also undertake a blood drive and health check for all of the staff members at the Korotogo property.

Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort will also host two events in the coming months to raise funds for its community projects.

On April 21, staff members will participate in a walkathon to raise money for the Sigatoka Special School.

Funds raised would also be used to construct teachers' quarters at Conua District School.

Mr Hopgood said they hoped to raise about $30,000 for the two projects.
