Traditional leaders' leadership training to boost villages

THE people of the districts of Mali, Nadogo and Labasa will now be able to have more knowledge and skills of developing businesses and other developments in their respective villages after their traditional leaders underwent a one-week leadership training held at Vunivutu Village.

National iTaukei Resource Owners rep for Macuata Peni Donu said the training would help equip leaders of their roles in leading the people.

"The training is facilitated by a non-government organisation LEAD Fiji and New Zealand," Mr Donu said.

He said they signed a memorandum of understanding with the Macuata Provincial Council under the Macuata Financial Growth framework to provide the learning and development training for the traditional leaders.

Mr Donu said with the leadership training they could now lead their people in getting their projects grow.

"In previous years, our respective leaders would have very limited ideas and knowledge of what they can do to help with village projects," he said.

"With this leadership training we will be able to strengthen traditional leaders and all other district leaders and faith-based leaders by giving them the knowledge of how to operate a business project within the village and help see it grow."

Mr Donu said the training would also help upgrade leadership skills for traditional leaders.

"The training helps broaden their mind and would in a way motivate them to work towards various income-generating projects that would later contribute to the developments of their villages," he said.

"Topics like budgeting, source of finance, business projects and other related topics were taught during the training.

"With those topics, we know, that they now have more knowledge of operating a business and how they as leaders can help maintain its progress in order to move forward."

A similar leadership training will be held at Vesidrua Village, Macuata next week.
