Maciu Malo In Las Vegas
Monday, March 05, 2018

NATIONAL 7s skipper Jerry Tuwai said the boys were ready to give their best in the Las Vegas 7s semi-final match against hosts USA at the Sam Boyd Stadium this morning.

The nippy playmaker, who scored the winning try in their quarter-final against New Zealand, said the Las Vegas tournament was like the Hong Kong 7s.

He said the boys needed to communicate on the field and improve from where they left off yesterday.

"Firstly I thank the Lord for the win and this tournament is like Hong Kong 7s to us," said Tuwai.

"It is like our home tournament because of the fans and we will give our best in the final."

He said the heart-wrenching quarter-final win exposed few areas that needed improvement.

"We just need to communicate more during our defence and move up another notch in the semi-final."

Tuwai said the boys left it late in the last moments of the game to win.

New Zealand assistant coach Tomasi Cama Jr said the All Blacks Sevens wasted few scoring opportunities which cost them the game.

"We just did not capitalise our scoring opportunities when we had the chance and this affected our performance," said Cama.

The do-or-die semi- final against USA would be another thriller as both teams have big followers.

Head coach Gareth Baber said the top four battles would be tough and he had faith in his troops for an improved performance.

"The semi-final is going to be tough, especially it is the the top four teams in the tournament," he said.

Baber is expected to stick to the same line up that defeated New Zealand for the semi-final with Josua Vakurinabili, Kalione Nasoko and Mesulame Kunavula, Jerry Tuwai, Vatemo Ravouvou, Amenoni Nasilasila and Eroni Sau.

Meanwhile, Fiji's quarter-final tries were scored by Vatemo Ravouvou and Tuwai. Both were converted by Ravouvou while New Zealand scored their two tries to Vilimoni Koroi and Sione Molia.
