FIJI Rugby Union chief executive officer John O'Connor said Fiji rugby had achieved so much in the past years.

This is after the 2017 Fiji Sports Awards' Coach of the Year was won by Fiji Airways Flying Fijians head coach John McKee, the Team of the Year award to the Flying Fijians and the 2017 Fiji Sportsman of the Year award to Olympian and national 15s and 7s rep, Leone Nakarawa.

O'Connor said he was proud of the achievements and dedicate wins to the rugby fans and the FRU staff,

"Having to win three awards shows the dedication and hard work everyone went through to be recognised at this level," he said.

"The judges were unanimous in their decisions to pick McKee for the award after and excellent outing for his sport in 2017. However he brought joy to all Fijians winning the four out of five tests.

"The team took some Tier One nations and is ranked ninth in the world."

O'Connor said it had been a journey of transformation in getting the best rugby to all Fijians.

"We firmly believe that gold medals and a win start from the boardroom. I thank the board members for their support and wisdom to make changes at FRU.

"It has now bore the fruits in all the teams under the FRU banner."

O'Connor said the hard work that they did behind the scenes had been successful and they would continue to drive Fiji Rugby into the future.
