A delegation led by the Commissioner Northern Jovesa Vocea visited Dogoru Village on Friday night to thank the vanua for their assistance during the search operations for the Cessna 172 aircraft.

Bearing basic food items and household goods, the delegation presented their traditional appreciation to the people of Dogoru.

Mr Vocea said the villagers efforts during the search was commendable, adding they worked remarkably with the recovery team based at the village.

"The visit was a way of traditionally thanking villagers for their support during the last five days," he said.

"Even though the efforts they put in cannot be paid in monetary value it is a positive sign of the willingness of communities in the North to work with government emergencies especially during times of emergencies.

"We also wanted to traditionally seek apologies from the vanua for any misunderstandings that may have arisen during the past five days.

"Dogoru Village is an exceptional example of the many things that can be achieved if people worked in partnership with Government."

Dogoru Village headman Semi Radradra said villagers treasured the gesture of goodwill adding they would be ready to assist any government department in any time of emergency.

Mr Radradra said it was an honour for villagers to work with the recovery team that was based at their village last week.

"Our homes are open to government departments should they need our assistance in the future," he said.

The Pacific Flying School's Cessna 172 plane had crashed at the Delaikoro mountain ranges a week ago killing instructor, Iliesa Tawalo and trainee pilot, Merelesita Lutu.
