Monday, March 05, 2018

ATTORNEY-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum would be giving an explanation in Parliament today on why the Fiji Bureau of Statistics could not release data on ethnicity from the 2017 Fiji Population and Housing Census.

The Parliament's March sitting begins today and the A-G is also expected to provide an update on the progress of the reconstruction of schools destroyed by TC Winston.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum will also be elaborating more on actions needed to be taken after the results of the climate vulnerability assessment on Fiji was released in Bonn during COP23.

Fijians would also be hearing from Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama if there was any intention by Government to establish the Truth and Reconciliation Commission to reconcile and unite the people of Fiji.

Minister for Agriculture, Rural and Maritime Development and National Disaster Management and Meteorological Services Inia Seruiratu is also expected to give an update to Parliament on what the ministry has developed for Disaster Risk Management and response, following recent Tropical Cyclone Gita.

Defence Minister Ratu Inoke Kubuabola will also be informing Parliament on how effective the Duavata Initiative has been in reducing the national crime rate as a measure of collective security.
