Update: 3:59PM CANTERBURY: POLICE dogs, road policing and a tour of Police cells are among some of the activities on offer as part of public open days being hosted by Canterbury Police this month.

The open days will be held at the Justice Precinct, Christchurch on Sunday, March 11.

Canterbury District Commander Superintendent John Price says the open days are equally important for both the public and Police.

"This is a great opportunity to have a look around our new building and meet local Police staff and understand the work and purpose of New Zealand Police to make people feel safe, and what we do to keep people safe," Superintendent Price said.

"I'm proud of the team we have here in Canterbury and locally in Christchurch. We are proud to be able to open our doors to our local community and show them our capability and they can take great pride in the Police and the work our staff do in the community," he said.

Plenty of family-friendly activities are planned for the day to showcase the different aspects of policing.

Activities will include displays from the local Police dog squad, armed offenders, road policing, recruitment information, general policing displays and a tour of Police cells.
