France tests Fiji 7s team discipline

LANKY Josua Vakurinabili was outstanding for the Fiji Airways Fiji 7s team's second game against France scoring two tries to help the Fijians win 33-5 at the USA 7s in Las Vegas yesterday.

The Nadroga native who has secured his spot in the starting line-up for most of Fiji's games showcased his talents in defence, attack and especially in the support play.

Vakurinabili has perfectly fitted well in the puzzle despite some basic mistakes early in the 7s series.

And with a few more top level exposures, he is expected to permanently secure his position in future international 7s competition.

Yasawa native Kalione Nasoko, Mesulame Kunavula and Sevuloni Mocenacagi also scored a try each while Amenoni Nasilasila and Vatemo Ravouvou converted two tries each.

The physical encounter between these two teams best tested Fiji's defensive pattern on the narrow Sam Boyd pitch.

Head coach Gareth Baber said the boys bravely held the physical France outfit and managed to calm them down with some big hits.

"There have been some big shots going from both teams and I was pleased with the way we weathered them," he said.

"We kept our discipline and at half time when it was 12-5 and the next score is always going to be crucial and we got it.

"That created a bit of momentum and I was pleased with our work ethics especially without the ball which was good to see," Baber said
