Fiji FA program promotes healthy living

FIJI FA, the organisers of the Moms and Pops League program, hopes with the support of parents, they will be able to promote healthy living as well as provide a pathway for children who plan to adopt football in future.

Ronald Ram, a Fiji Football Association (Fiji FA) development officer, said the 10-week Moms and Pops program which kicked off at Albert Park in Suva yesterday would be beneficial for the children and parents.

"It is sort of a family activity. The children are taught the basics of football along with various activities that will keep them healthy. Parents are crucial and with their involvement they can encourage and go back and further assist their communities," Ram said.

"The response in the Western Division last week and now this weekend in Suva has been great. Instead of staying home, playing video games, the children and parents can come out and enjoy this program."

The launch witnessed a good turnout yesterday as a number of parents turned up with their children. Former Fiji football internationals Apisalome Turuva, Marika Rodu and Lorima Dau were part of the panel conducting the workshop.

Numbers are expected to increase in the coming weeks.

Neomai Tukania, a parent, who was with her three children at Albert Park yesterday had called on other parents to take their children to the park on Saturdays and be part of the program.

"The program has been very good. We do not have a compound at home where the kids can play so this is a good chance for them to exercise. The kids enjoyed the day and met some new faces. We will surely be here next week and will like to encourage other parents to come out next week," she said.
