FIJI'S tender to host a tournament in the annual HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series has been sent to World Rugby.

This was done before the bid closed on Wednesday, said Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) chief executive officer, John O'Connor.

"The FRU has compiled with the bid requirements and had submitted the bid to World Rugby prior to the deadline," O'Connor said.

"We can confirm that we have submitted our bid submission to World Rugby."

He said the FRU and the bid team, led by Brian Thorburn and Greg Peters submitted a credible and strong bid which met all criteria set out by World Rugby.

He said the FRU now looked forward to participating in the evaluation process with World Rugby. A decision on the bid is expected to be known in June.

The FRU expects to make public with the details of its submission at the Fiji Rugby Awards dinner which is planned for Friday, March 9.
