Adapting to necessary changes way forward: Seruiratu

Update: 7:07PM ADAPTING to necessary changes to overcome the severity of natural disasters is the way forward.

This was the sentiment shared by Fiji's climate change champion and Minister for National Disaster Management Inia Seruiratu while speaking to Anglican Church members from the Pacific in the presence of the Archbishop of Canterbury, Rev Justin Portal Welby, in Suva today.

Mr Seruiratu said some had taken disaster warnings lightly, however, after the tragic incident of Severe TC Winston, people had now started to take weather warnings seriously.

"The new norm is that disasters are going to happen and it will always happen and the severity of these disasters have gone to a new level," he said.

"Our way of thinking, the way we see things, our paradigm must shift because if we take it lightly, we will pay the price. We must accept these things and must prepare better for the future."
