Update: 5:23PM EFFORTS to empower young girls to think critically and express their views on issues affecting them today has led to a series of creative writing workshops.

The workshops are organised by the Fiji Women's Right Movement building up towards this year's International Women's Day celebrations.

Thirty-nine young girls between the ages of 10 to 17 years were today part of the workshop held at the University of the South Pacific's Laucala Bay campus.

FWRM girls officer Lillian Delana said an issue that had been unanimously highlighted by the girls during the workshop was bullying in schools.

"The girls have learned to write their creative pieces, and also learned more about creative writing, to be critical, having your own opinion and writing your pieces to highlight the different issues young girls are facing nowadays," Ms Delana said.

"Bullying is still one of the major issues and also girls being abused and violated."

International Women's Day will be celebrated on Thursday, March 8, from 6pm to 8pm at the AusAid Theatre in USP.
