Three in serious condition after crash at Whakamarama

Update: 5:19PM BAY OF PLENTY: NEW Zealand Police and rescue authorities are attending to a crash incident at the intersection of State Highway 2 and Omokoroa Road.

Police said the crash happened at 4.50pm and involved two cars.

It has been confirmed that one car had gone down a bank and an occupant is in a critical condition and trapped.

Police said two other occupants were in a serious condition.

Emergency services are waiting for helicopters to land in the area to airlift the injured to hospital.

The road will be closed for a couple of hours.

Motorists are asked to avoid Whakamarama in the Bay of Plenty area and Police are calling for patience from members of the public.
