Damodar City hosts Holi celebrants

Update: 2:19PM THERE was an explosion of colours as hundreds of people from all walks of life gathered for the Holi celebrations at Damodar City in Laucala Bay, Suva, today.

People gathered in their white t-shirts, armed with water balloons, water guns, coloured powder and even hose pipes to celebrate a festival highlighted by love, laughter and happiness.

Damodar group of companies CEO Div Damodar said the festival was all about having fun and he was pleased to see the number of people that showed interest towards the event. 

"Over 2000 people attended the event last year, and according to social media following, over 4000 people showed interest towards this event," Mr Damodar said. 

"Today, this event has grown to bigger and greater heights and Fiji is all about having no boundaries or walls between the race or religious difference. We are so proud to be hosting the event."

Holi is an annual Hindu tradition that celebrates the triumph of good over evil through the legend of a powerful evil king named Hiranyakashipu who was defeated by the goodness of his son Prahlada.

It is observed predominantly in India, Nepal and South Asia but adopted across the world.
