PATRICK Bower, Team Fiji chef de mission to the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia, said no athlete would be included as a late inclusion into the national contingent.

With the exception of netball and rugby 7s, the rest of the teams would be finalised next Wednesday, he said.

"We have finalised most of the teams," Bower said.

"The teams that will have the final say as to their numbers will be netball and rugby 7s. Other teams had been finalised and had gone to the media.

"We had to make sure that all the athletes listed had their visas accredited and that they were ready to be received in the games venue in Australia.

"If there is a last minute change, we have come into a period where there is no possibility of putting someone onboard into a team.

"It will not be possible because the time frame is over and they will not be permitted to be given a visa to enter Australia.

"For now they have a short list and the final names will be given next Wednesday."

Team Fiji will participate in 12 sports. They are athletics, badminton, beach volleyball, boxing, lawn bowls, netball, rugby, shooting, squash, swimming, table tennis and weight-lifting.

"The teams have been blessed that they have received funding and support from Government.

"It allowed them to go to Australia for pre-games camp and competition.

"We are not only looking at going across for competition, we are looking at ensuring that they are prepared mentally and physically well,.

"On Sunday March 11 at the Grand Pacific Hotel from 8 to 4.30pm, will be a workshop with sports physiologists and nutritionists to ensure that their diets are correct.

"We have facilitators, not only from Fiji, but from overseas taking the workshop. Following the workshop from 4.30pm to 6pm, a final medical check for all pending athletes."

Bower said a number of athletes would join Team Fiji in Australia.

"The flights are all scheduled. Some athletes training and playing overseas will join us at the Commonwealth Games such as the rugby 7s men who will be coming from Hong Kong direct to the games.

"The rest will leave on March 30. They will be collected at Brisbane Airport and flown to the Gold Coast. We have a charted flight which will be leaving from Brisbane after the closing ceremony," he said.

The games will be from April 4-15.
